A Chicago lifestyle newborn photography session focuses on real connection over rigid posing. Instead of highly structured posing or props, the goal is to document your family as you naturally are in this season of life — soft, emotional, and real.
In our studio, this experience takes place in our dedicated Lifestyle Corner, designed specifically to feel like a warm, lived-in home while still offering the consistency and control of a professional studio environment.

The Lifestyle Corner is a unique space in our studio designed to evoke the warmth of a lived-in home.
This space was intentionally and thoughtfully designed over time — not just styled, but truly built around a vision of how family photography should feel.
I actually visited several of my friends’ studios in different cities — and even traveled to one in another country — to study how light, space, and design worked in real sessions. I wanted to make sure I fully understood how to create a space that felt both effortless and intentional, while still photographing beautifully in every season.
In our studio, we have two custom-designed window spaces that were created specifically for different types of storytelling. One is designed to give a soft windowsill-style feel, perfect for quiet, intimate connection and close-up family moments. The other creates a more open living room-style setting, designed for natural interaction, movement, and relaxed lifestyle imagery.
Imagine a cozy living room seamlessly blended with a warm, natural light atmosphere — this is where memories come to life.
Adorned with modern, neutral furniture and thoughtfully selected decor, the space is flooded with soft light from our expertly crafted faux windows, creating the feeling of natural daylight throughout the entire session.
At Rena Meystel Photography, this space was intentionally designed to feel less like a traditional studio and more like a real home environment — allowing families to relax, settle in, and simply enjoy being together.
The Lifestyle Corner is not only used for newborn sessions — it is also used for family portraits, maternity sessions, milestone sessions, and branding photography, making it one of the most versatile parts of our studio.
Our approach is always baby-led and unhurried.
Sessions typically include:
We follow baby’s rhythm throughout the session, with plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and breaks whenever needed. Nothing is rushed, and there is never pressure for baby to perform or be posed in a specific way.
We know that welcoming a new baby is a beautiful but exhausting season — especially for mothers in the postpartum period. Many moms worry about how they will look or feel in photos, or simply don’t have the time or energy to prepare before leaving the house.
To make the experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible, we offer professional hair and makeup for Mom, so she can arrive feeling relaxed, refreshed, and camera-ready without any added pressure.
We also provide a light breakfast and refreshments in the studio, because newborn mornings are often rushed and unpredictable. These small details help create a calm, supportive experience from the moment families arrive.
Our goal is always to remove stress so families can simply focus on being together during this fleeting newborn stage.
Yes — and in this recent session, the older siblings played such a beautiful role in the story.
We always encourage sibling participation in a natural, relaxed way. Rather than stiff posing, we focus on connection — cuddling on the sofa, gentle kisses, and quiet moments of curiosity with their new baby sister.
These are often the images families treasure most as their children grow.

The best time to schedule newborn photography is during pregnancy, with sessions typically taking place within the first 2–3 weeks after birth.
That said, lifestyle newborn sessions are flexible and can still be beautiful even when baby is a bit older. The focus is always connection, not perfection or strict timelines.
Newborn sessions typically last between 3-4 hours, depending on baby’s needs.
We always allow time for:
The experience is never rushed — everything follows baby’s pace.

Most families choose soft, neutral tones that complement the warm, natural feel of the Lifestyle Corner.
We recommend:
Outfit guidance is always provided at our complimentary consultation before your session so everything feels cohesive and effortless.
This is completely normal. Newborn sessions are designed around baby’s needs. Whether baby needs to feed, be held, or take breaks, we adjust the pace accordingly. There is no pressure and no timeline to follow. Some of the most meaningful images often come from these quiet, in-between moments.
The Lifestyle Corner is more than just a space for photographs; it’s a place where families can relax, connect, and create lasting memories.
We designed it specifically to feel like home — without the stress of cleaning, preparing, or worrying about lighting or space.
The combination of:
creates an environment where families can truly be themselves. These soft colors work so well with angelic newborn babies.
